Princeton Drops ECAC Hockey Opener To St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – The St. Lawrence Saints defeated the Princeton Tigers, 4-0, at the Appleton Ice Arena on Friday evening.
Princeton outshot St. Lawrence, 29-25 while neither team could convert on the power play in three combined chances. The Saints won the faceoff battle, 38-18. 16 different Tigers took a shot in the contest while Colton Phinney made 21 saves in the loss.
The Saints got on the board at the 16:30 mark on a tally from Carson Gicewicz. The home squad added another goal, this time from Gavin Bayreuther. St. Lawrence put the game away with a Jacob Pritchard short-handed goal five minutes into the third stanza. Joe Sullivan wrapped up the scoring with an empty-netter with 1:45 to go.
The Tigers dropped to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in the ECAC. St. Lawrence improved to 4-4-1 and 1-0 in conference action. Princeton will make the trip to Clarkson tomorrow (7 p.m.) to finish the first weekend of ECAC action.
