St. Denis, Tironese & Garteig Tabbed with League’s Monthly Awards

ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey men’s monthly awards were announced Tuesday, November 3 as the pair from Quinnipiac - Travis St. Denis and Michael Garteig - were voted as the league’s Player of the Month and Goaltender of the Month, respectively, while Evan Tironese, Rensselaer earned Rookie of the Month honors.

Player of the Month

For the month of October, St. Denis led all ECAC Hockey skaters in goals (6), goals per game (1.00) as well as two-goal games (2). St. Denis opened the season with a two-assist night in a 5-3 win at Holy Cross before scoring his first goal of the year against the Crusaders on the following night in the Bobcats' home opener. He scored his next time out in a 5-0 win against Arizona State. St. Denis capped the month with back-to-back two-goal games in a two-game sweep of No. 9 St. Cloud State to capture ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors.

Rookie of the Month
Evan Tironese, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
(Freshman, Forward - Qualicum Beach, British Columbia)

Tironese led the Engineers with seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in the month of October, including assists on all three game-winning goals that Rensselaer scored. He recorded at least one point in each of the first four games he played to start his career and has notched at least a point in all but one game. The Engineers went 3-1 in games in which he recorded an assist. Tironese currently leads all of his ECAC Hockey counterparts in points (7), assists (6) and power-play assists (3).

Goaltender of the Month
Michael Garteig, Quinnipiac University
(Senior, Goaltender - Prince George, British Columbia)

For the month of October, Garteig was 6-0-0 with a .947 save percentage and a 1.33 goals-against average. Among ECAC Hockey goalies, he ranked first in wins (6) and shutouts (2) while ranking fourth in GAA and fifth in save percentage. Garteig earned ECAC Hockey Goalie of the Week honors on Oct. 26 after stopping 73 of 76 shots on goal in two-game sweep of No. 9 St. Cloud including a 32-save performance on Friday and a career-best 41 saves on Saturday. Garteig also became the fifth member of Quinnipiac's 50-win club with 52 career wins.
