Colgate Blanks Queen's in Exhibition Opener

HAMILTON – Senior captain Nathan Sinz scored the lone goal of the game as the Colgate men's hockey team blanked Queen's University, 1-0, on Saturday night at Starr Rink.

Colgate got the goal from Sinz with assists going to Tylor and Tyson SpinkEric Mihalik played great in net and earned the shutout with 19 saves. The Raiders had nine power play chances, but couldn't capitalize. Riley Whitlock for the Gael's did what he could in net with 40 stops, including 17 in the second.

The Raiders got on the board in the second period with 12:10 left in the frame as Sinz scored during a 4-on-4 situation. Tyson and Tylor Spink combined with Sinz on a great tic-tac-toe play in front of the net and Sinz jammed it home. Colgate controlled a lot of the play in the period, outshooting the Gaels. 18-7. The rookie line of the Spink twins and Kyle Baun had a very impressive period, holding the puck in the zone for multiple possessions and opportunities.
