Citizens Bank Returns as Title Sponsor of Governor's Cup

ALBANY, N.Y. - ECAC Hockey today announced that Citizens Bank will for the second consecutive year serve as the title sponsor of the Governor's Cup. The 2007 Citizens Bank Governor's Cup featuring Colgate University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, St. Lawrence University and Union College, and will be played October 26-27 at the Times Union Center.

"Citizens Bank is pleased to once again join with the Governor, ECAC Hockey and the Times Union Center in presenting the Governor's Cup," said Robert M. Curley, state president, Citizens Bank, New York. "The Governor's Cup marks the unofficial kick-off to the college hockey season in the Capital Region. The tournament is primed to become a great annual tradition in ECAC Hockey with the continued and growing support of the league, the business community and the region's loyal fans."

Governor's Cup competition October 26 features St. Lawrence facing Colgate at 4 p.m., followed by Rensselaer versus Union at 7 p.m. The following day will feature the third-place and championship games. Rensselaer claimed the 2006 title, edging Colgate in a shootout.

The Citizens Bank Governor's Cup was created in 2006 as a way to showcase the league's teams at the beginning of the season and to generate excitement for the ECAC Hockey Championship, held annually at the Times Union Center. The 2008 championship will take place March 21-22.

"The synergy between the Times Union Center, ECAC Hockey and the prominent sponsors like Citizens Bank make our facility one of the premier sports venues in the Northeast.
