Women's Championship Tournament
A total of eight teams qualify for the championship and are seeded based on the final regular-season standings. The format for the quarterfinals features best-of-three games series and are played on the campuses of the higher-seeded teams.
The four quarterfinals winners advance to the championship finals, which are conducted at the site of the highest remaining seed. The format of conducting the finals at the home site of the highest remaining seed has been utilized since 2006. Showcasing the championship at the site of the highest remaining seed has added to the championship experience and allowed more fans to attend the games.
The championship finals utilize a Saturday-Sunday format, with the two semifinals contests being played Saturday, followed by the championship final Sunday.
The 2009 championship will commence the weekend of February 27-March 1 when the top four seeds host seed Nos. 5-8 in quarterfinals competition. The championship semifinals and final will be conducted Saturday-Sunday, March 7-8, respectively.
Past championship sites have been: Brown (1994, 1995, 1999, 2000 and 2003); Dartmouth (2001, 2002 and 2007); Harvard (2008); New Hampshire (1996); Northeastern (1997 and 1998); St. Lawrence (2006); and Union (2004, 2005).
