Yale Donor Drive Misses Its Biggest Supporter

NEW HAVEN — One by one the members of the Yale
women’s hockey team attempted to wipe away the groggy,
early-morning cobwebs following what had to be a most restless
night.
As they gathered for breakfast around 7:45 Thursday morning, it
may have seemed like just another routine breaking of bread amongst
friends. But it was the start to a day none of them will soon
forget.
For weeks and months they anxiously awaited for April 22 to get here. It was going to be a defining moment for one of their own. Senior forward Mandi Schwartz, a leukemia survivor, sat in on committee meetings for the second annual bone marrow drive. In Schwartz’s own understated manner, she helped to get the word out to fellow Yale students about the four-hour event at the Yale Commons. She had every intention of being front and center for the drive.
