Team Notes: Yale Visits Princeton, Quinnipiac
The following article appeared January 28 on the Yale Web site.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale visits an old rival and a new one this
weekend with a road trip to Princeton (Friday, 7:00 p.m.,
Pay-per-view Video, Live Stats) and Quinnipiac (Saturday, 4:00
p.m., Pay-per-view Video, Live Stats). The Bulldogs are 7-3-1 in
their last 11 games against the Tigers, with nine of those games
decided by two goals or fewer. The Bulldogs' series with the
Bobcats has also been marked by close games, including three
overtime affairs in the previous three seasons, though Yale is
10-2-3 overall against its neighbors just North up I-91.
Yale-Princeton
Yale heads back to Baker Rink for the first time since a thrilling
5-3 win over Princeton there a year ago. The Bulldogs let a 3-1
lead slip away as the Tigers' Katherine Dineen finished off a hat
trick with a goal 51 seconds into the third period, but three
minutes later junior forward Caroline Murphy (Woodstock, Conn.)'s
diving short-handed goal gave the Bulldogs the lead again. Murphy
then sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
Shivon Zilis '08 made 40 saves. The Tigers got their revenge at
Ingalls Rink a month later, edging Yale 2-1 on a pair of goals by
Annie Greenwood. That kept up an interesting trend for the Bulldogs
- in the last nine meetings between these teams, the Bulldogs have
either scored four or more goals (six times) or one or fewer goals
(four times). Yale is 5-3-1 against Princeton in that span. Melanie
Wallace leads the Tigers in scoring (5-13-18), while Sasha Sherry
is sixth in the country in scoring by a defenseman (6-10-16 in 21
games). Goalie Kristen Young has a .921 save percentage and a 2.20
goals-against average.
Yale-Quinnipiac
These two teams have already met once this year, but that game - a
2-0 Yale win at the Nutmeg Classic - did not count in the ECAC
Hockey Standings. The Bulldogs outshot the Bobcats 28-17 and got
goals from junior defenseman Alyssa Clarke (Donkin, N.S.) and
senior forward Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.), while sophomore
goalie Jackee Snikeris (Downingtown, Pa.) made 17 saves. Elyse Cole
(9-8-17) leads the Bobcats in scoring, while Tia Wishart leads in
save percentage (.922) and goals-against average (2.46).
