SYDNEY — Despite her team missing the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs this season, Donkin’s Alyssa Clarke is proud of how resilient her Yale Bulldogs were in dealing with serious health concerns that befell a few of her teammates.

Two players, graduating defencemen Carlee Ness and junior forward Denise Soesilo, had to end their careers short due to concussion problems. Another player, junior forward Mandi Schwartz, was diagnosed with leukaemia in December and returned home to Saskatchewan to begin treatment.

Clarke said Schwartz has just completed her fourth round of chemotherapy and is currently in remission. There’s a drive to look for a bone marrow match for Schwartz, a cause that was taken up by her teammates and the sporting community at Yale.
