Team Notes: Yale Welcomes Colgate and Cornell to Ingalls
The following article appeared January 22 on the Yale Web site.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs have just reached the halfway
point of the ECAC Hockey schedule, but already the race for the
playoffs is heating up. Yale enters this weekend's games vs.
Cornell (Friday, 7:00 p.m., free live video on Yale All*Access) and
Colgate (Saturday, 4:00 p.m., Yale All*Access, WYBC 1340) six
points out of the last playoff spot.
Yale-Cornell
Cornell shut out Yale 3-0 the last time these two teams met, in
November at Lynah Rink, snapping a 10-game winning streak in the
series for the Bulldogs. The Big Red then endured a 3-6-1 skid, but
appears to have righted the ship with a sweep of Union and RPI last
weekend. Forward Rebecca Johnston, a member of the Canadian
National Team who scored a pair of goals against the Bulldogs,
leads the Big Red in scoring with 13 goals and 12 assists entering
the weekend. Forward Catherine White is sixth in the country in
points per game among freshmen (10-14-24 in 19 games).
Yale-Colgate
The Raiders beat the Bulldogs 4-2 in Hamilton last November. Goals
by senior defenseman Helen Resor (Greenwich, Conn.) and senior
forward Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.) were not enough, as a
power-play goal by forward Marissa Dumbovy in the second period and
a goal by forward Katie Stewart in the third broke a 2-2 tie.
Sophomore goalie Jackee Snikeris (Downingtown, Pa.) made 39 saves,
while Colgate's Kimberly Sass made 33. Sass has won three ECAC
Hockey Rookie of the Week honors this season, including one for her
work last weekend in wins over RPI and Union (.948 save percentage,
1.50 GAA).
