Resor Among Nominees for Kazmaier Award
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Senior defenseman Helen Resor (Greenwich,
Conn.), who made history as the first Yale women's hockey player to
make an Olympic team roster three years ago, is among the nominees
for the 12th annual Patty Kazmaier Award as the top female college
hockey player in the country. USA Hockey announced the nominees
Friday afternoon.
Resor, who won a bronze medal with Team USA in the Olympics, is
tied for 11th nationally in scoring by a defenseman (6-10-16 in 23
games). She is also tied for the team lead in assists, is third in
points and is fourth in goals. Her 44 career assists place her 11th
on Yale's all-time list in that category, and she is also tied for
16th in career points (70) and is 21st in career goals (26). Along
with Yale men's goalie Alec Richards (Robbinsdale, Minn.), she is
also among the candidates for the East squad at the upcoming NCAA
Frozen Four Skills Challenge. On-line voting for that honor runs
through Noon on Feb. 18 at ncaa.com.
Resor was named to the New England Hockey Writers' Division I
All-Star Team and was second team All-ECAC Hockey in 2006-07. She
has been a preseason All-ECAC Hockey pick twice and was named to
ECAC Hockey's All-Rookie Team and USCHO's All-Rookie Team in
2004-05. That year, she scored one of the most significant goals in
school history when she converted a penalty shot with 5:38 left in
Yale's Mar. 4 ECAC Hockey playoff game against Princeton at Ingalls
Rink. The Bulldogs went on to win in overtime for their first
playoff victory in program history.
No player in Yale history has more international experience than
Resor. In addition to her bronze medal at the Olympics, she also
won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2005 IIHF Women's World
Championship and won silver medals at the Four Nations Cup three
times (2005-2007) and at the 2007 IIHF Women's World Championship.
She has attended USA Hockey's National Festival four times.
Resor comes from a Yale family that also includes her sister, Jane
'01, who played for the Bulldogs and is married to Jeff Hamilton
'00, the all-time leading scorer for the Yale men's team. Resor's
cousin Carry is a senior defenseman for the Bulldogs, and her
cousin Nina '07 also played for Yale.
A history and political science major, Resor is a two-time ECAC
Hockey All-Academic selection. She volunteers with Community Health
Educators, an organization at Yale that teaches workshops with
local high school and middle school students about health-related
issues.
Prior to Yale, Resor led Noble and Greenough to a 25-0-3 record
and a New England Division I Championship. She also played for
Assabet Valley.
The top 10 finalists for the Kazmaier Award will be announced
March 2, and the top three will be announced March 10. Yale has had
one Kazmaier Award finalist, goaltender Laurie Belliveau '98 in
1997-98.
The winner of the Kazmaier Award will be announced on March 21,
during the NCAA Women's Hockey Frozen Four in Boston.
