Team Notes: Nutmeg Classic Starts Friday; Yale Plays Quinnipiac

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Yale has little time to celebrate its upset
of No. 4 Boston University from Tuesday night. The Bulldogs return
to the ice against Quinnipiac in the first round of the Nutmeg
Classic Friday night at UConn's Freitas Ice Forum (7 p.m.), with
the winner to play the winner of the UConn/Wayne State game for the
Nutmeg Classic Championship Saturday at 7 p.m.
Yale Upsets No. 4 BU
No. 4 BU seemed to have everything going in its favor heading into
Tuesday night's game against Yale at Ingalls Rink. The Terriers
were riding a 10-game unbeaten streak (second-longest in the
country), had the No. 7 scoring defense in the nation, and had
allowed only two goals total in their last three games. The
Bulldogs had not played in 10 days and were looking for an
offensive spark -- but they found that spark at the right time.
Goals from four different players and 18 saves from sophomore
goaltender Jackee Snikeris (Downingtown, Pa.) led Yale to the
thrilling 4-1 win. Yale got a pair of power play goals -- from
freshman forward Aleca Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) and senior forward
Danielle Kozlowski (Melrose, Mass.) -- along with even-strength
tallies from senior forward Kristen Stupay (Ashburn, Va.) and
senior forward Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.). That tied Yale's
season high for goals, and also tied the high for goals allowed by
BU this season.
Bulldogs Among National Leaders
Senior forward Crysti Howser (Wilmette, Ill.) is eighth in the
country in points per game (13 in eight games) and 10th in goals
per game (seven in eight games). Sophomore forward Bray Ketchum
(Greenwich, Conn.) is 25th in points per game (10 in eight games).
Senior defenseman Helen Resor (Greenwich, Conn.) is tied for fourth
in points per game among defensemen (eight in eight games), while
junior defenseman Alyssa Clarke (Donkin, N.S.) is 18th (five in
eight games). Aleca Hughes (Westwood, Mass.) is tied for 10th in
points per game among rookies (eight in eight games).
