Dutchwomen Raise Funds for Charity

The Union women's ice hockey team recently raised $950 for Adopt a Family through Family and Child Services of Schenectady, Inc.

The team adopted two families this year each with two children and bought and wrapped presents for them to have for the holidays.

Freshman forward Stefanie Thomson said, “It was something that the entire team could do together that was fun, and put everyone in the Christmas spirit.”

“It's a very eye opening experience”, noted junior goaltender Kate Gallagher.  “We are very lucky to be able to do what we love with people we love each day, and not everyone has that. Some kids ask for basic items that we don't need to wait for a holiday to receive, so being able to give them that and more is a very rewarding experience."

“Every year I look forward to Adopt a Family because I love participating and donating to the organization knowing that it will make a difference in a family's Christmas”, remarked sophomore forward Nicole Bartlett.   “There are simple things in the world that can turn a families life around, and Adopt a Family allows this to happen.  I enjoy helping other people anyway I can, and I look forward to helping more families in the years to come."

"I like doing adopt a family because it feels good to know we helped make the holidays a little better for a family that is less fortunate and that their kids are going to have a happy Christmas morning seeing presents under the tree," said sophomore goaltender Alana Marcinko.
