Gentile, Maduri to Captain Dutchwomen in 2010-11
SCHENECTADY, NY – Union College head
women’s ice hockey coach Claudia Asano announced
that forward Marissa Gentile and defenseman Perri
Maduri will lead the Dutchwomen as captains for the 2010-11
season. While this will be Maduri’s first season wearing the
‘C,’ Gentile served as captain for the 2009-10 season
with Jackie Koetteritz ’10 and she also served as
assistant captain the year before.
“I am happy to announce the captains for next year,”
Asano said. “Both Marissa and Perri add great leadership to
our program both on and off the ice. They are two of the hardest
workers on our team and motivate our program daily.”
Both Gentile and Maduri played all 34 games last season and have
played 100 games in their career at Union.
Gentile scored two goals and six assists for a total of eight
points last season. The Groton, Mass. native scored her first
game-winning power-play goal on New Year’s Day in
Union’s 4-3 win over North Dakota. In 100 games played in her
career at Union, Gentile’s 17 assists places her in a
four-way tie for sixth in the all-time list.
"With the addition of our incoming players, we look forward to
another year of great team chemistry,” Gentile said.
“For next season, we have high expectations of ourselves and
we will train hard to collectively achieve them."
Last season was a memorable one for Maduri. While setting a
career-high four assists throughout the season, the Westford, Mass.
native scored her first career and the game-winning goal on Jan. 16
at Providence, R.I. to help the Dutchwomen defeat Brown 3-0 and
earn their first ECAC Hockey win in nearly five years.
“I am honored to have been elected as captain for the
upcoming season alongside Marissa,” Maduri said. “I
look forward to leading the team toward a fun and successful
season.”
The Dutchwomen open the 2010-11 regular season with a six-game
homestand beginning with Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 2 with a 4
p.m. start at Messa Rink.
