SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Union College women’s ice hockey coach Claudia Asano released the 2009-10 schedule, which features twenty-two ECAC contests and twelve non-conference games against seven different opponents, including the Dutchwomen’s first-ever matchup against Syracuse.

“I tried to put together a competitive schedule with teams
from every league,” Asano said. “I think it will be
great for our group to see teams from every league. We added
Syracuse which will be a great set of games for us and is fairly
local. Early in the season we have two weekends, which will give us
plenty of time to work on team play and build
camaraderie.”
Union opens the season with an exhibition game against the
Bluewater Hawks on Sunday, September 27. The Dutchwomen then begin
the regular season with a contest at Northeastern of Hockey East on
October 3rd, followed by a weekend series at Vermont.
Sacred Heart visits Messa Rink for the Dutchwomen’s first
home contests of the regular season with a series on October 16th
and 17th.
“The early games will give us the edge for the league
contests that follow,” Asano said. “We have the
opportunity to win the early non-conference games and gain momentum
to the tougher part of our schedule.”
Union then travels to Storrs, CT to play the University of
Connecticut before opening ECAC league play on October 30th and
31st with a weekend series at Quinnipiac and Princeton.
November opens with four ECAC home games against Cornell on the
6th, Colgate on the 7th, Brown on the 13th and Yale on the 14th. To
cap off the month, the Dutchwomen travel to Syracuse for the first
time in program history to face the Orange on November 28th and
29th.
To open December, Union plays a home-and-home series with ECAC
hockey foe RPI on December 5th and 6th, then host Maine in an
afternoon series the following weekend to end the first half of the
season.
The Dutchwomen ring in the New Year by hosting North Dakota on
January 1st and 2nd. The next weekend, league play restarts with
home games against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Union then plays four
games on the road before ending the month back at home with
contests against Princeton and Quinnipiac.
Union goes north for a weekend against St. Lawrence and Clarkson
to open February, then comes back home to face Dartmouth and
Harvard the following weekend.
The Dutchwomen close out the regular season on the road at Colgate
and Cornell on February 19th and 20th.
“It is always difficult to play so many consecutive league
games, but it will be very exciting,” Asano said. “Our
team does well in the second half and I look forward to it. We seem
to come together and play well then. It will be a great time to
test out our team and prove that we are a good team in the league
and it will be a time to prove that we belong in the
playoffs.”
