Fleury to Address Dutchwomen

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Theoren Fleury is traveling from Calgary, Alberta to Schenectady, NY and Union College to speak with the Dutchwomen’s ice hockey team during the weekend of weekend (Nov. 15-16). The 16-year NHL veteran will spend time with the coaches, captains and the team before Sunday’s 2 p.m. contest against RPI and be around following the conclusion for questions and autographs.

Fleury, who spent 11 years with the Calgary Flames where he won the Stanley Cup, finished his NHL career with 1,084 points, 455 goals and 633 assists. He played for Colorado, New York and Chicago before playing at the international level. Fleury was mostly known for his size and scoring abilities.

Being involved in youth hockey after returning to Canada, Fleury recognizes the challenges the Dutchwomen face with 12 freshmen, no athletic scholarships and the demand of attending one of the top institutions in the country.

Fleury will arrive in the Capital Region on Saturday night and will meet with the coaches and captain following Union’s 2 p.m. contest at RPI. The following day he will be a guest at the Dutchwomen’s pre-game meal where he will speak with the team. After the conclusion of Sunday’s game he will again speak with the squad in the Garnet Room.
