Shaidle Joins Union Staff

SCHENECTADY, NY-Union College Head Women's Ice Hockey Coach Claudia Asano has tabbed Ashley Shaidle as an assistant coach for the Dutchwomen's upcoming season. Shaidle, a 2007 Clarkson graduate, finished her career as the Golden Knights' all-time leading scorer and served as an assistant captain for the last three seasons.

"Ashley was one of the beginning players at Clarkson and helped get the program off the ground," said Asano. "She logged a lot of ice time and was one of the best players in Clarkson's history. She is a demonstrated team leader and has an excellent strength and conditioning background. Her passion for the game and for the success of our program will be a huge asset to Union College."

Shaidle's main duties with the Dutchwomen will include coordinating and supervising the team's strength and conditioning program, as well as recruiting and working with the team's forwards and penalty kill units.

"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity that has been provided to me," commented Shaidle. "I am thrilled to join the staff and to work with Claudia and the team. I look forward to combining my experience with Claudia's expertise to give the players as much as I can to develop their careers at Union College."

Shaidle was a four-year letter-winner for the Golden Knights, and finished her career atop Clarkson's all-time scoring chart with 98 points on 52 goals and 46 assists in 138 games. Shaidle led the team with 17 goals and 14 assists in her junior season, helping Clarkson to a third-place tie in the ECAC Hockey League with a 22-14-1 overall record and a league record of 12-8.

Prior to Clarkson, Shaidle was an assistant captain with the Ohio Flames, tallying 48 goals and 44 assists in 58 games. She helped the Flames to the District Championship every season, leading to Nationals. She is a native of Hudson, OH, and will begin duties on July 1.
