Emard, Belanger to Lead Saints
CANTON, N.Y. -- St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells has announced that graduate student Karell Emard will serve as the Saints' captain for the 2011-12 season. Senior Josee Belanger has been elected to serve as an assistant captain.
Emard was an assistant captain last season, as she and Belanger will wear their letters beginning tomorrow night when the team hosts McGill University in their annual exhibition bout.
"I'm very happy to see Karell and Josee be recognized by their teammates as our leaders," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells. "They have a significant amount of experience they've gained throughout their tenure and we'll be relying on that throughout the upcoming season."
Emard has been an excellent two-way player throughout her career at St. Lawrence. In 119 career games, the Venise en Quebec, QC native has tallied 24 goals and assisted on 46 others. She was forced to miss the 2009-10 season with an injury, allowing her to serve as captain and lead the Scarlet and Brown this year.
Meanwhile, Belanger emerged as a top-tier defenseman last season. She has played in 98 collegiate games, scoring one goal against nationally-ranked #2 Cornell last season, while adding seven helpers.
All of the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team's home games are scheduled to be broadcast on America One, with season passes and daily tickets will be available for purchase. Live stats will also be available for home games as well as many away contests.
The puck will drop on the 2011-12 hockey season tomorrow night at 5:00pm when the Saints and Martlets get their exhibition contest underway. The Scarlet and Brown will then square off with Clarkson University at 7:00pm on Saturday in the regular season opener following an alumnae game featuring players from both sides of the north country rivalry.
