Engineers Take Part in Breast Cancer Walk
ALBANY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
women's ice hockey
team participated in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides
Against
Breast Cancer Walk. The event, which took place in Albany's
Washington Park,
featured over 15,000 walkers and raised an astounding
$1,070,000.
The Engineers, consisting of 24 walkers, both players and coaches,
raised
$1995.00 for the cause and finished in the top 50 for donations
raised by
teams from across the Capital Region.
This is the fifth straight season the team has participated in the
walk,
having raised over $9,260.00 toward the fight against Breast
Cancer. RPI
has continued to produce astounding amounts toward the fight each
season,
raising over $1,700 in 2010, over $900 dollars in 2009, over $2,150
in 2008
and $2,515 in 2007.
The Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is a
non-competitive
walk to help fight breast cancer and provide hope to people facing
the
disease. Participation in the event supports the American Cancer
Society's
lifesaving research, prevention, early detection, and support
programs for
thousands of patients and their families.
