RPI Helps in Fight Against Breast Cancer

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s ice hockey team recently participated in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The event, which took place in Albany’s Washington Park, featured thousands of walkers who raised over $405,000.

The Engineers, consisting of 23 walkers, both players and coaches, raised over $1,702 for the cause and finished in the top 50 for donations raised by teams from across the Captial Region.

This is the fourth straight season the team has participated in the walk, having raised over $7200.00 toward the fight against Breast Cancer.  RPI has continued to produce astounding amounts toward the fight each season, raising over $900 dollars in 2009, over $2,150 in 2008 and $2,515 in 2007.

The Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is a non-competitive walk to help fight breast cancer and provide hope to people facing the disease. Participation in the event supports the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving research, prevention, early detection, and support programs for thousands of patients and their families.
