RPI opens with a pair of exhibition games at the Field House, hosting the Toronto Aeros on September 26 and the Stoney Creek Sabres the following day. Rensselaer begins its regular season schedule at home against Hockey East foes Northeastern and Boston University on October 3 and 4, respectively.

After participating in the Skate with the Engineers following the game against BU, RPI travels to Boston College on October 11, followed by a two-game set at Mercyhurst (Oct. 17-18). Rensselaer plays a pair of non-league home games against Niagara on October 24-25. The Engineers open their 22-game ECAC Hockey schedule the following weekend against Brown (Oct. 31) and Yale (Nov. 1) at the Field House.

RPI hits the road for a weekend set against Harvard and Dartmouth on November 7-8 before returning to the Capital Region for a home-and-home series against area-rival Union. The Engineers host the Dutchwomen on November 15 and travel to Schenectady the following day. Rensselaer is on the road for four games over the next two weekends, closing out the fall semester at Robert Morris (Nov. 21-22) and league-rivals Quinnipiac (Dec. 5) and Princeton (Dec. 6).

Following a near month-long layoff, the Engineers compete in their first in-season tournament since elevating to Division I. RPI takes on host St. Cloud State (Jan. 2) before facing North Dakota the following day. They then return home to face Princeton and Quinnipiac on January 9-10.

After a trip to Central New York to take on Colgate and Cornell (Jan. 16-17), the Engineers open a four-game homestand beginning with Clarkson on January 23, followed by St. Lawrence (Jan. 24), Dartmouth (Jan. 30) and Harvard (Jan. 31).

Rensselaer returns to the road for its next four games, including trips to St. Lawrence-Clarkson (Feb. 6-7) and Yale-Brown (Feb. 13-14), before closing its regular season schedule at home against Cornell and Colgate on February 20-21.

Led by head coach John Burke, who is entering his sixth season, Rensselaer went 13-15-5 overall, including a 6-12-4 mark in ECAC Hockey.
