Engineers Raise Money For Heart Association
TROY, NY - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team recently completed a first semester campaign to raise money for the American Heart Association. Through donations and raffles, which took place at each of the 14 homes games this semester, the Engineers raised $925.
The event was held in honor of former Rensselaer women's head coach, Bill Cahill, who passed away suddenly in the fall of 2003. Cahill, who coached the Engineers from 2000 until his death in 2003, was one of the visionaries in elevating the women's hockey program to the Division I level.
"This is an event that we've taken part in for the last couple of years and it's a great cause," said current head coach John Burke. "It's a chance for us to give back and help people in the community. To dedicate out efforts in honor of Bill, who meant so much to both hockey programs here at RPI, makes it that much more special."
All of the money will be donated to the American Heart Association, which is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke."
