As 2011 comes to an end and we welcome the New Year, many make resolutions about aspects of their life they want to improve or change. However, as we returned to the ice after our weeklong break for Christmas, it was easy to see that not much changed for the Bobcats. Though a team goal is to constantly improve, the same ol’ characters, loud voices, and laughs were present as soon as we reunited, and the locker room instantly filled with excitement for the second half of the season.
A tradition we have is to do Secret Santa as a team. Before we leave for our break we draw numbers out of a hat and the week we get back we meet in our team lounge for dinner and a swapping of gifts. It’s always fun to see the gifts that are given and how perfect they are for each player. One of the most thoughtful gifts was given from one line-mate to another. Brittany Lyons, a junior forward, received a basketball hoop and ball set from senior Kate Wheeler. Kate and Britt sit across from each other in our locker room and it’s always a competition to see who can make their sock tape ball into the garbage. According to Kate, Britt needs a little practice so the basketball hoop and ball were the perfect gift.
