Team Notes: Quinnipiac Opens League Schedule on Road
ECAC Hockey Schedule Kicks Off
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team begins its ECAC
Hockey schedule on the road when it travels to face Rensselaer on
Friday, Oct. 28 and Union on Saturday, Oct. 29. Both games are
scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

About Rensselaer
The Engineers are coming off their fourth straight defeat
following a 4-2 loss to Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 22. Senior
Laura Guillmette and sophomore Jordan Smelker each scored for
Rensselaer, while freshman Brianna Piper made 16 saves in net in
the loss. Overall, Rensselaer is led by senior Alisa Harrison's
seven points (four goals, three assists), followed by Smelker's six
points (two goals, four assists) and Guillmette's five points (two
goals, three assists). In four games, Piper has accumulated a 3.08
goals against average to go along with a .874 save percentage.
Freshman Kelly O'Brien has also seen action in four games, as she
has a 1.77 goals against average to go along with a .915 save
percentage.
All-Time Against The Engineers
Friday's contest against Rensselaer will be the
17th time the two sides face each other, as the
Engineers hold a 10-5-1 all-time series lead. In their last meeting
on February 11, 2011, Quinnipiac skated to a 5-1 victory. The
Bobcats followed their fantastic freshman,Kelly
Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario), who contributed two goals and
three assists in the victory. Junior Jordan
Elkins (Wasilla, Alaska), freshman Amanda
Colin (Burnsville, Minn.) and sophomore Brittany
Lyons (Canton, Mass.) each netted a goal as well for
Quinnipiac, while sophomore Victoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made 13 saves in
goal.
About Union
The Dutchwomen are coming off a disheartening 5-3 loss to
Syracuse on Saturday, Oct. 21. Despite scoring the game's first
three goals (two by senior Emilie Arseneault and one by senior
Lauren Cromartie), the Orange stormed back with five goals in the
third period, including three goals within the last three minutes
of the game. Overall, Union is led by freshman Bryanne Panchuk's
six points (two goals, three assists). Freshman goaltender Shenae
Lundberg has accumulated a 4.41 goals against average to go along
with a .864 save percentage, while junior netminder Alana Marcinko
has put together a 2.56 goals against average to go along with a
.917 save percentage on the season.
All-Time Against The Dutchwomen
Saturday's contest will be the 20th time the two
sides face each other, as Quinnipiac leads the all-time series,
16-0-3. In their last meeting on February 12, 2011, Quinnipiac
shutout Union, 4-0. Babstock was the hero once again, leading the
charge with two goals scored on the afternoon. Sophomore Brittany
Lyons (one goal, two assists) and fresman Lindsay Burman each
scored as well for Quinnipiac, which ended its regular-season with
its 20th overall victory. Sophomore goaltender
Victoria Vigilanti stopped all 23 shots faces on the afternoon,
earning her eight shutout of the season.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac fell to No. 5/6 Boston College, 5-0, on
Friday, Oct. 21. The Bobcats held the Eagles to just two goals
through two periods of play, but were unable to contain Boston
College in the third period of play in which the team scored its
final three goals. Junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti made 30
saves in goal for Quinnipiac.
ECAC Hockey Action
Quinnipiac finished the 2010-11 season with the program's
most-ever wins in ECAC Hockey (12).
Laden Makes Her Debut
Freshman goaltender Chelsea Laden (Lakeville,
Minn.) made her first collegiate start in net on Friday, Oct. 14
against Northeastern, turning away 32 shots in 46 minutes of play.
The highly touted freshman was runner-up in the state of Minnesota
for Defensive Player of the Year in 2010-11 and held a .926 save
percentage and a .163 goals against average during her senior
season.
Fresh On The Scene
Freshman Nicole Kosta currently leads all
freshmen on the team with four points on the season (one goal,
three assists).
Season's Firsts
On Saturday, Oct. 8 against Maine, freshman Breann
Frykas (East St. Paul, Manitoba), junior Regan
Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba), and senior Melissa
Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) each collected their respective first
assists of the season.
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend's games, Quinnipiac returns home to face
Yale on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., followed by a home meeting
against Brown the following Saturday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m.
