About Northeastern
The Huskies are coming off a 5-0 win over Colgate on
Saturday, Oct. 8. Junior Casey Pickett scored two goals in the
game, while junior Brittany Esposito, senior Stephanie Gavronsky,
sophomore Katie MacSorely each netted one goal for Northeastern.
Florence Schelling made 10 saves in net for her first shutout of
the season. Overall, the Huskies are led by freshman Kendall Coyne
(four points), while Schelling has accumulated a .957 save
percentage to go along with a 1.00 goals against average.
All-Time Against The Huskies
Saturday's contest will be the 15th time
the two sides face each other, as Northeastern holds a 7-5-2
all-time series lead. Quinnipiac has won five of the last six
meetings between the schools, including a 4-0 shutout victory in
their last matchup on October 9, 2010. The Bobcats were led by
freshman Kelly Babstock's (Mississauga, Ontario) goal and an
assist, and received goals from freshmanErica Uden
Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden), junior Jordan
Elkins (Wasilla, Alaska) and junior Kate
Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario). Sophomore
goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario)
turned away 27 shots to record her second shutout of the
season.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac fell to Maine last weekend in its two-game
series on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8. On Friday evening,
the Black Bears clawed back from a 3-0 deficit to score
four-straight goals and take the 4-3 win. Quinnipiac was led
offensively by juniorBrittany Lyons (Canton, Mass.) who
contributed a goal and an assist in the game. Seniors Bethany
Dymarczyk (Hamden, Conn.) andChelsea Illchuk (Brandon,
Manitoba) each tallied first-period goals for the Bobcats, while
sophomores Elena Orlando (Chico, Calif.), Babstock, and
freshman Nicole Kosta (Mississauga, Ontario) all earned
an assist in the contest.
The Bobcats fell in overtime, 5-4, the following Saturday afternoon, as a late goal from Maine with just 30 seconds remaining in the third period tied the score at four apiece, sending the teams into the extra frame. Babstock and Lyons each contributed a goal and two assists in the game, while Kosta, Wheeler, junior Breann Frykas (East St. Paul, Manitoba), and senior Melissa Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) each earned an assist.
Lyons' Fast Start
The Canton, Mass native is off to her best start of her
career, as she compiled five points (two goals, three assists) over
the weekend against Maine. Lyons, who during the 2010-11 season
accumulated 21 points on 12 goals and nine assists, did not earn
her fifth point of the season until November
19th when she tallied two assists in a 4-0 win over
Colgate.
Mississauga Duo
Babstock and Kosta each made solid contributions
offensively over the weekend, as the two combined for two goals and
five assists in the two games played. The Mississauga natives
currently rank second and third on the team in total points, as
Babstock leads with four points (one goal three assists) compared
to Kosta's three (one goal, two
assists).
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend's games, Quinnipiac will travel to
face Northeastern on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. The following
weekend on Friday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m., Quinnipiac visits Boston
College. The Bobcats finish the month of October on the road
against Rensselaer on Friday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m., followed by a 3
p.m. contest against Union on Saturday, Oct. 29.
