Team Notes: Quinnipiac Visits St. Lawrence and Clarkson
Bobcats Head North
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team (13-7-1) (6-6-0 ECAC
Hockey) travels to northern New York this weekend, as it prepares
to face ECAC Hockey foes St. Lawrence (9-8-2) (4-3-0 ECAC Hockey)
on Friday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. and Clarkson (6-10-3) (3-3-1 ECAC
Hockey) on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 4 p.m.

About St. Lawrence University
St. Lawrence last played on Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12
in a weekend series against No. 3 Mercyhurst, in which both teams
traded victories. On Friday night, St. Lawrence stunned Mercyhurst
with a 6-2 upset victory. Junior forward Vanessa Emond led the
charge with two goals and one assist, while freshman defender Mel
Desrochers, senior defender Lauren Brozowski, sophomore forward
Kayla Sullivan and sophomore defender Brooke Fernandez each tallied
one goal on the evening. Freshman forward Rylee Smith leads the
Saints with 17 points on the season (six goals, 11 assists)
followed by sophomore forward Kelly Sabatine's 15 points (eight
goals, seven assists). Senior Maxie Weisz and freshman Caitlyn
Lahonen have split goaltending duties this season, with Weisz
seeing action in 12 games and Lahonen playing in eight games. Weisz
has a .913 save percentage and a 2.44 goals against average, while
Lahonen has a .911 save percentage and a 2.25 goals against
average.
All-Time Against The Saints
Friday's contest will be the 11th time the two
sides will face each other, as the Saints hold a 1-8-1 all-time
series lead. In their last meeting on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010,
Quinnipiac defeated St. Lawrence, 2-1, in its first-ever victory
over the Saints. Sophomore defender Bethany
Dymarczyk (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman defender Felicia
Vieweg (Port Orange, Fla.) each scored in the third period for the
Bobcats to lead the team to victory. Freshman goaltender Victoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made 18 saves on the
evening, helping the Bobcats to their 16th win of
the season.
About Clarkson University
Quinnipiac faces Clarkson after the Golden Knights finished the
2010 calendar year with two tough loses against Colgate on Friday,
Dec. 3 and Cornell on Saturday, Dec. 4. On Friday against Colgate,
the Golden Knights lost, 5-2, and on Saturday against Cornell they
were defeated, 3-0. Senior forward Melissa Waldie, who leads the
team with eight goals and four assists, registered both goals on
Friday evening against Colgate. Junior forward Juana Baribeau is
second on the team in total points (10) with four goals and six
assists thus far on the year. Freshman forward Jamie-Lee Rattray
leads the Golden Knights with eight assists and ranks third on the
team with nine points. Senior Lauren Dahm and freshman Erica Howe
have split time between the pipes, as Dahm has played in 12 games
and Howe in 10. Dahm has a .918 save percentage and a 2.56 goals
against average, while Howe has a .930 save percentage and a 1.69
goals against average.
All-Time Against The Golden Knights
Saturday's game against Clarkson will be the
15th time the two sides face each other, as the
Golden Knights own a 2-10-2 all-time series lead over the Bobcats.
In their last meeting on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, Quinnipiac tied
No. 4 Clarkson, 1-1. Freshman forward Brittany
Lyons (Canton, Mass.) scored the lone goal for Quinnipiac,
while freshman goaltender Victoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made a then season-high 37
saves against the fourth-ranked team in the nation.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac was defeated, 3-0, against Princeton earlier in the
week on Monday, Jan. 3 at Hobey Baker Rink. Princeton captured two
quick goals in the span of 37 seconds to jump out to an early 2-0
lead mid-way through the first period and extended its lead to 3-0
in the second frame. The Bobcats held the Tigers to just 19 total
shots on the afternoon. Despite the loss, Quinnipiac retains sole
possession of second place in ECAC Hockey standings with 12
points.
May History Repeat Itself
Quinnipiac has responded well this season after a loss, touting a
4-1-1 mark following a defeat.
Shoot To Score
Quinnipiac leads all ECAC Hockey teams with 644 shots on the
season. When the Bobcats outshoot its opponents they are
10-1-0.
Strike Early And Often
The Bobcats are an astounding 12-2-0 when scoring the first goal
of a contest, and an even better 9-0-0 when leading after the first
period of play.
Power Play Success
Quinnipiac's 22.1 power play conversion percentage is good for
second among ECAC Hockey teams and is tied for fifth overall in
NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey. The Bobcats have scored 21
goals on its power play opportunities, already one more than it
scored in its chances during all last season.
Tenacious D
Quinnipiac has given up 38 goals for an impressive 1.81 goals
against average, which is seventh-best in NCAA Division I Women's
Ice Hockey.
Can't Stop Babstock
Freshman forward Kelly
Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) continues to dazzle the
opposition with her offensive talents, as she has registered 17
goals and 19 assists on the season thus far. She ranks first in
goals, assists and points among ECAC Hockey skaters and is tied for
second in the league with a plus-20 mark. The freshman is tied for
fourth among NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey skaters in points
and is tied for first in the country with six game-winning
goals.
Awarding Excellence
The freshman phenom has been recognized on seven separate
occasions for her remarkable play during the season. Most recently,
she was named Quinnipiac's Female Athlete Of The Month for the
month of December, leading the team to two victories in the only
two games played during the month. This was the second consecutive
time Babstock has been named Female Athlete Of The Month. She
received the same accolade for the month of November after she
accumulated 10 goals and five assists in nine games played. She is
a four-time ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Rookie of the Week award winner,
as well as a one-time Player of the Week recipient.
Protecting The Net
Vigilanti is fourth among ECAC Hockey netminders with a 1.79 goals
against average. She ranks first in the league with 466 saves and
is second with 12 wins on the year.
Dymarczk Puts Up Healthy Numbers
Junior defender Bethany
Dymarczyk (Hamden, Conn.) continues to be a scoring threat
from the blue line for the Bobcats this season, as she has
collected three goals and 11 assists on the year. Dymarczyk is
third among ECAC Hockey defenders in total points (14) and ranks
her fourth overall on the team.
Boulton's Best
Sophomore defender Regan
Boulton (Brandon, Manitoba) is sixth in scoring (seven
goals, four assists) among ECAC Hockey defenders. Her seven goals
leads all Quinnipiac defenders and her 11 points overall are
fifth-best on the team.
How Swede It Is
Freshman forward Erica
Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) is tied for sixth in
ECAC Hockey in goals (eight), tied for fourth in assists (11) and
is tied for fifth in points (19). Her 1.00 points per game ranks
her eighth among NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey freshman
skaters.
Goals Galore
The Bobcats have scored 63 goals thus far on the season for a 3.00
goals per game average. Quinnipiac leads ECAC Hockey in goals
scored and is second in goals per game, trailing only Cornell,
which holds a 4.36 goals per game average.
Line 'Em Up
Quinnipiac's potent first line, consisting of Babstock, Wheeler
and Uden Johansson, is one of the best in the country. Together,
the threesome has accumulated 31 goals and 41 assists, while
posting an astounding plus-51 mark. Wheeler and Babstock rank first
and second among ECAC Hockey Skaters with a plus-21 and plus-20
mark, respectively.
On Home Ice
Quinnipiac returns home to host New Hampshire in a non-conference
game on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports
Center.
