Team Notes: Quinnipiac Travels to Dartmouth and Harvard
Competitive ECAC Hockey Matchups
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team (17-9-1, 9-7-0 ECAC Hockey)
travels to face ECAC Hockey opponents Dartmouth (14-8-0, 10-6-0
ECAC Hockey) on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. and Harvard (12-7-2,
11-3-2 ECAC Hockey) on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m.

About Dartmouth College
Dartmouth, in the midst of a season-high five-game winning streak,
is coming off two victories on January 28 and 29 against Yale and
Brown. On Friday against Yale, Dartmouth pulled out a 2-1 win and
on Saturday against Brown, the Big Green skated to a convincing 6-0
victory. Sophomore forward and leading scorer Camille Dumais (11
goals, 14 assists) netted three goals and one assist against Brown,
while senior forward Amanda Trunzo (13 goals, 11 assists) tallied
two goals and two assists against the Bears. Freshman goaltender
Lindsay Holdcroft collected both wins over the weekend to give her
a 10-5-0 record on the season. She has compiled a 2.18 goals
against average and a .894 save percentage on the season.
All-Time Against The Big Green
Friday's game will be the 12th time the two teams
will face each other, with Dartmouth leading the all-time series
with a 3-6-2 record. In their last meeting earlier this season on
Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, Dartmouth defeated Quinnipiac in overtime,
4-3, on a goal from sophomore forward Sasha Nanji just over a
minute into the overtime frame. Freshman forward Kelly
Babstock's (Mississauga, Ontario) second hat trick of the
season (and second in as many nights) was not enough to lift the
Bobcats to victory. On the evening, freshman goaltender Victoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made 22 saves.
About Harvard University
Through the help of a season-high six-game winning streak, the
Crimson have taken control of second place in ECAC Hockey. Last
weekend on January 28 and 29, Harvard defeated both Brown and Yale
on consecutive nights. On Friday against Brown, Harvard shutout the
Bears, 4-0, and on Saturday against Yale, they defeated the
Bulldogs, 5-3. Senior forward Liza Ryabkina (nine goals, eight
assists) led the Crimson over the weekend, netting two goals and
two assists, while sophomore forward Jillian Dempsey (six goals,
eight assists) contributed to the cause with one goal and three
assists in the two victories. Sophomore goaltender Laura Bellamy
has an 11-6-1 record on the season, with a 2.15 goals against
average and a .894 save percentage.
All-Time Against The Crimson
Saturday's game will be the 12th time the two
sides face each other. While Harvard owns the all-time series lead
with a 2-9-0 record, the Bobcats have won the last two contests
including a 4-1 victory earlier this season on Friday, Nov. 12,
2010. Freshman forward Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) netted
her first career hat trick as the Bobcats knocked off No. 10
Harvard. Junior forward Chelsea
Illchuk (Lockport, Manitoba) scored the game's first goal
for Quinnipiac, helping the Bobcats to their eighth win of the
season. Freshman goaltender Victoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made 27 saves on the
evening.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac is coming off a weekend split against ECAC Hockey
opponents Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday, Jan. 28 and
Saturday, Jan. 29. On Friday against Clarkson, Quinnipiac was
defeated in overtime, 3-2. Despite entering the third period with a
2-0 lead, Quinnipiac surrendered two third period goals to
sophomore forward Danielle Skirrow to send the game into overtime
and set up the Golden Knights' eventual game-winner. Quinnipiac
responded with a 4-2 victory on Saturday against St. Lawrence, as
four different Bobcats scored in the contest. Junior
defender Melissa
Perry (Chelsea, Mich.) and freshman forward Kelly
Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) each scored in the second
period, while sophomore forwardBrittany
Lyons (Canton, Mass.) and junior forward Kate
Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) each tallied a score in the
third frame. Sophomore goaltenderVictoria
Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) stopped 21 shots on the
evening to earn her league-leading 16th victory of
the season.
A Couple Shorties
Babstock (22 goals, 21 assists) netted a pair of shorthanded goals
on consecutive nights against Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday,
Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29. The freshman is now only the second
skater in program history to record two shorthanded goals in one
season. Overall, the goals were the second and third shorthanded
goals of the season for the Bobcats
Lyons Feasting On Opposition
Sophomore forward Brittany
Lyons tallied two goals and an assist over the weekend
against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Lyons, who netted the
game-winning goal against St. Lawrence, now has eight goals and
five assists on the season. She is tied for fourth on the team in
goals and is sixth on the team in total points (13).
Elkins Is An Animal
Junior defender Jordan
Elkins (Wasilla, Alaska) earned two assists on Saturday,
Jan. 29 against St. Lawrence, the most assists she has tallied in a
game this season. Elkins (four goals, seven assists) now has three
multi-point affairs on the year.
Senior Leadership
Senior forward Kelley
Davies (Chesapeake, Va.) netted three assists over the
weekend to give her five on the season. She has recorded at least
one assist in three straight games.
Wheeler In The Mix
Junior forward Kate
Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) netted a goal and an assist
over the weekend to give her 11 goals and 13 assists on the season.
Wheeler has recorded at least one point in four of the last five
games and has three goals and two assists in that same span of
games.
Four For Me And None For You
When Quinnipiac scores four or more goals, as it did against the
Saints of St. Lawrence, it is a perfect 9-0-0 on the season.
Responding Well To Adversity
Quinnipiac did well to bounce back after a tough overtime loss to
Clarkson and defeat St. Lawrence. The Bobcats are an impressive
7-1-1 in games following a loss.
Unstoppable Force
Babstock, who has 22 goals and 21 assists on the season, continues
to roll offensively, as she leads all ECAC Hockey scorers in goals,
assists and points. She also ranks tied for first among all NCAA
Division I Women's Ice Hockey freshman in goals, assists and
points. Babstock is second in the country with seven game-winning
goals.
Comin' Home
Quinnipiac returns home to the TD Bank Sports Center on Tuesday,
Feb. 8 when it faces non-conference opponent New Hampshire at 7
p.m.
