The following article appeared January 21 on the Quinnipiac Web site.
The Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey team will play host
to Wayne State this weekend for a non-conference weekend series at
the TD Bank Sports Center. The Bobcats will take on the Warriors at
3 p.m. on Friday, and at 4 p.m. on Saturday, playing in the opening
game of two Quinnipiac hockey doubleheaders. In their last weekend
of play, the Bobcats swept the No. 10-ranked Syracuse on Jan. 15
and 16.
Scouting the Warriors
Wayne State enters the weekend series with an 8-9-3 overall record
with a 4-4 record in College Hockey America play. The Warriors most
recently swept conference opponent, Robert Morris, in a two-game
series last weekend in Detroit. Senior forward Katrina Protopapas
currently leads Wayne State's offense as she has tallied 11 goals
and three assists on the year. Protopapas also leads the nation in
power play goals, scoring nine this season. Goaltenders Delayne
Brian and Lindsey Park have split time in net this season for the
Warriors, with Brian posting a .921 save percentage, and Park
holding a .903 percentage.
Orange Crush
The Bobcats compiled their second consecutive weekend sweep as
they defeated the No. 10-ranked Syracuse Orange last weekend in
upstate New York. Quinnipiac came away with a 4-3 overtime victory
in the game on Jan. 15, and a 2-1 win on Jan. 16. The two victories
earned the Bobcats three consecutive wins against nationally ranked
teams as they defeated No. 3-ranked Harvard on Jan. 9 at the TD
Bank Sports Center. ECAC Hockey opponent, Clarkson, is the only
other team to compile three successive wins against ranked teams
this season, as they defeated No. 3 New Hampshire, No. 9 Boston
University, and No. 7 St. Lawrence in late October.
