Team Notes: Quinnipiac Travels to Colgate and No. 2 Cornell

Upstate New York ECAC Hockey Weekend
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team (8-5-1) (3-4 ECAC) will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. on Friday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. to face ECAC Hockey opponent Colgate (4-8-0) (1-3-0 ECAC) followed by a visit to Lynah Rink in Ithaca, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. when it is set to face ECAC Hockey foe No. 2 Cornell (6-1-0) (5-1-0 ECAC).

About Colgate University
Colgate is coming off a 4-1 victory over Niagara on Saturday, Nov. 13 in which four different skaters scored for the Raiders. Sophomore forward Brittany Phillips recorded a goal and an assist on the evening to give her a team-high nine points on the season. Sophomore forward Jenna Klynstra, the team-leader with five goals, and sophomore defender Jordan Brickner are both tied for second on the team with seven points. Senior goaltender Lisa Plenderleith and junior netminder Kimberly Sass have split time in net this season, as each has played six games. Plenderleith has a .897 save percentage and a 3.14 goals against average, while Sass has a .916 save percentage and a 2.33 goals against average.

All-Time Against The Raiders
Friday's contest will be the 20th time the two teams will face each other. Colgate owns the series lead with a 14-2-3 record against the Bobcats. In their last meeting earlier this season on October 30, Quinnipiac was defeated in overtime 2-1. Klynstra scored both goals for Colgate, including the overtime game-winner just 1:36 into the frame. Freshman forward Elena Orlando (Chico, Calif.) scored her first-career goal for Quinnipiac at the 7:11 mark of the third period to even the score, 1-1. Sophomore goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) made 37 saves on the evening.

About Cornell University
Cornell remained as the second ranked team in the country for the eighth straight week, as announced in the UCSHO.com Women's Poll on November 15. In its last two contests, Cornell was victorious in both weekend games on Friday, Nov. 5 against Harvard and Saturday, Nov. 6 against Dartmouth. The Big Red's 6-1 victory over Dartmouth marked the second time this season that Cornell has scored six or more goals in a game. Freshmen Brianne Jenner and Jessica Campbell lead the charge for the Big Red, as Jenner (five goals, six assists) leads the team in assists and Campbell (six goals, four assists) leads the team in goals. A pair of juniors, Chelsea Karpenko and Catherine White,  are tied for third on the team with nine points scored. Junior goaltender Amanda Mazzotta is parked between the pipes for Cornell, as she has compiled a .931 save percentage and a 1.43 goals against average.

All-Time Against The Big Red
Saturday's game will be the 14th time the two squads will face each other, as Cornell leads the all-time series with a 5-3-5 record. In their last meeting earlier this season on October 29, Cornell defeated Quinnipiac 5-1, handing Quinnipiac its first ECAC Hockey loss of the year. In the game, junior forward Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) struck first for Quinnipiac at the 16:08 mark of the first period. On the play, she was assisted by freshmen forwards Kelly Babstock (Mississauga, Ontario) and Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden).

Last Time Out
On Saturday, Nov. 13, Quinnipiac was defeated in an overtime contest against Dartmouth, 4-3. Sophomore defender Sasha Nanji scored the game-winning goal at the 1:04 mark of the overtime frame to give Dartmouth its second straight overtime victory.  Future two-time ECAC Hockey/MLX Skates Rookie of the Week award winner Kelly Babstock netted all three goals for Quinnipiac, as she collected her second hat trick of the season. 

Déjà Vu Performance
With two consecutive hat trick performances on Friday, Nov. 12 and Saturday, Nov. 13, Babstock became the first skater in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history to record two hat tricks in the same season. The six goals have propelled her into the NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey lead in goals scored (13) and total points (27). 

Simply Unbelievable
In just 14 games played, Babstock has accumulated more points this season than Quinnipiac's two highest point getters during the 2009-10 season, in which both Janine Duffy and Heather Hughes each scored 25 points in 37 games played. 

History In The Making
Babstock is quickly approaching the all-time records for all three major offensive categories at Quinnipiac. She is just two goals away from tying Hayley McMeekin's 2006-07 15 goal season, and two assists away from tying Jennifer Maclean's 17 assist season set in that same 2006-07 year. McMeekin also holds Quinnipiac's all-time points record with 30, which Babstock is just three points away from tying.

Three-Way Tie
Babstock remains tied with Quinnipiac women's ice hockey all-time freshman record of 14 assists, set by both Vicky Graham in 2003-04 and Heather Hughes in 2009-10.

National Scene
Babstock remains atop the leader-board nationally, as her 1.93 points per game ranks her first in the country among all freshman skaters and is good for sixth in the nation. She ranks seventh in the country with .93 goals per game and eighth in the country with 1.00 assists per game. Babstock also leads the country with five game-winning goals. 

Atop ECAC Hockey
Babstock's dominant numbers have her first in six statistical categories in the ECAC. She leads the ECAC in points (27), goals (13), assists (14), power-play points (three goals, six assists), game-winning goals (5), and is first among freshman scorers.

Wheeler Shows Leadership
Junior forward Kate Wheeler (Oakville, Ontario) quietly accumulated three assists over the weekend to bring her season total to six. She is tied for second on the team with six goals and six assists, and is just two points away from breaking her personal record of 14 points in a season, set in 2009-10. Wheeler is also tied for third in the ECAC in both goals and assists.

A Set Of Firsts
Junior forward Chelsea Illchuk (Lockport, Manitoba) and freshman forward Olivia Brackett (Coopersville, Mich.) teamed up on Friday, Nov. 12 against Harvard, as each scored her respective first goal and assist of the season. Brackett collected two assists overall in the contest.

Nutmeg Classic Weekend
Quinnipiac returns to action when hosts Sacred Heart on Friday, Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. to kick off the Nutmeg Classic Tournament. The Bobcats will then play on Saturday, Nov. 27 at either 4 or 7 p.m. against the winner of Friday's Yale versus UConn matchup.
