As the end of the academic year approaches, many soon-to-be college graduates frantically try to figure out the next stage of their life. For most, the corporate world is knocking with suits, ties and nine-to-five work days. But for the women’s hockey team’s Trudy Reyns and Elyse Cole, the pair will get to strap on their skates for at least one more season.

Both Reyns and Cole will head to Austria next season to play in the Elite Women’s Hockey League (EWHL). The first-ever Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey players to play professionally, they will join the Salzburg Ravens for the 2009-10 season. The EWHL is an eight-team league with teams playing 20 games in an eight-month season. It is one of the top women’s professional leagues in Europe and the pair joins a team that won the league championship following the 2006 season and finished second in the division last year.

Reyns and Cole leave Quinnipiac as two of the program’s most successful players. A fixture on the blue line the past four seasons for the Bobcats, Reyns finished second on the team this year in points and first in shots on goal. The captain appeared in every game for the Bobcats during her four-year career. She was also the first women’s ice hockey player to score a goal at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.
