Team Notes: Quinnipiac Hosts Final Home Games

The Quinnipiac University women’s ice hockey team will
play host to Cornell and Colgate in their final home games of the
2008-09 season. The Bobcats will take on the Big Red Friday night
at 7 p.m., and will face off against the Raiders Saturday afternoon
at 4 p.m. Five seniors, Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario), Elyse
Cole (Belleville, Ontario), Antoinette Maldonado (Glendora,
Calif.), Danielle Alexieff (Middletown, N.J.) and Erika Bolognino
(Carol Stream, Ill.), will be honored before the puck drops against
Colgate in their final game at the TD Banknorth Sports Center. In
its most recent game, Quinnipiac was defeated by Yale, 2-1 on Jan.
31.
Senior Status
The five graduating seniors have made quite an impact on the
Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey program. Reyns, Cole,
Maldonado, Alexieff and Bolognino have combined on 527 games
played, 83 goals and 97 assists. Three of the five seniors have
established themselves in the program record book. On Nov. 8, 2008,
Cole broke the all-time scoring record when she scored her 38th
career goal at Cornell. The record was previously set by Vicky
Graham in 2007-08. Cole is also ranked second in career points
(69), tied for second in goals per season (14) and tied for sixth
in points in a season (20). Reyns ranks 4th in career points (49),
and is tied for sixth in assists in a season (11). Maldonado ranks
fifth in career points (45), is tied for seventh in goals in a
season (10), and tied for sixth in assists for a season (11).
Reyns, Alexieff, Maldonado and Cole all rank in the top 11 for
career games played.
Scouting The Big Red
Cornell is 11-10-2 this season and is 7-7-2 in ECAC Hockey play.
In their last game, the Big Red defeated Clarkson, 4-1 on Jan. 31.
Sophomore forward Rebecca Johnston leads Cornell with 17 goals and
15 assists. Johnston is ranked amongst the top three players in
ECAC Hockey in goals and points. Goaltenders Jenny Niesluchowski
and Kayla Strong have split time between the pipes this season.
Niesluchowski has a 7-5-1 record and posts a .919 save percentage,
while Strong has gone 4-4-1 and has a .926 save percentage.
