Vigilanti Recognized as Quinnipiac Athlete of Month
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's ice hockey
freshman goaltender Victoria Vigilanti (Woodbridge, Ontario) has
been named the Quinnipiac Athletes of the Month for November. This
is the first time that Vigilanti has been recognized as the top
monthly athlete.
Vigilanti was a key component in the Bobcats' seven-point month in
ECAC Hockey, starting off strong as she notched her season-high in
saves with 34 at Brown on Nov. 6. The Bobcats went on to tie the
Bears, 0-0, in that match-up, earning Vigilanti her third shutout
of the season. The rookie goaltender posted a 3-2-3 record in
November, with her biggest win coming against Dartmouth on Nov. 14,
recording the program's first ever win against the Big Green.
Vigilanti turned aside 32 shots by Dartmouth in that game,
including an remarkable 18 saves in the third period to hold on to
the 2-1 lead for the victory. The Ontario-native earned ECAC Hockey
Goaltender of the Week honors for the second time of the season
after the Bobcats' two-point weekend against Colgate and Cornell on
Nov. 20 and 21. Vigilanti recorded 60 saves in 130 minutes of
action between the pipes on the weekend, highlighted by a 3-3 tie
with the No. 7 ranked Big Red. The freshman turned aside 32 shots
by Cornell, holding them scoreless in the third period where the
Bobcats scored two goals in the final 30 seconds of play to tie the
game, 3-3. Through 16 games played, Vigilanti continues to rank
atop the ECAC goaltending leader boards, ranking third in save
percentage (.938), goals-against average (1.58) and saves (346).
