Quinnipiac Announces Incoming Class
HAMDEN, Conn. -- Quinnipiac head coach Rick Seeley has announced the addition of 10 incoming players for the 2008-2009 season, including nine freshmen and one transfer student.
Bethany Dymarcyzk is a freshman defenseman who hails from Hamden, Conn. who attended the Westminster School and played for the Assabet U-19 Red team. She was voted the team most valuable player twice, in addition to being awarded the Bryan T. Bruyette Senior Athletic Award while also being named a Westminster Alumni Scholar. Dymarcyzk was a member of the Founders League Ice Hockey Championship Team in 2007 and 2008.
Jordan Elkins joins the team as a freshman defender from Wasilla, Alaska. Elkins played on the Wasilla High School Boys Varsity team that won three regional championships and finished fourth in the state. She was the assistant captain in her senior season earning all-region honors. She also played for the Alaska U-19 team.
Nanna Holm-Glaas is a junior goaltender who comes to Quinnipiac from the Danish National Team. As a member of that team, Glaas won the silver medal at the 2008 Division II World Championship, the gold in 2005 and the silver in 2004. She played with the Segeltorps IF in Sweden in 2007-2008 where she won a gold medal in the Swedish Championship. She also played for the Herlev Hornets and won gold in the Danish Championship in 2004, 2006 and 2007. Glaas was voted Best Goalie at the 2006 European Cup, and the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 Division I World Championship. She posted the best save percentage and goals-against average in the Swedish Championship Playoffs in 2008 and in the Division II World Championship in 2008.
Alexa Hynes is a freshman goaltender from West Roxbury, Mass. At Mount St. Joseph's she was voted Most Valuable Player twice and the Freshman of the Year. Before playing at Mount St. Joseph's, Hynes played for Assabet High School, winning the Massachusetts State Championship in 2003-2004. She also was a three-time USA Hockey National Champion while playing with the U-12, U-16 and U-18 teams.
Chelsea Illchuk joins the Bobcats from Lockhart, Manitoba. Illchuk was previously the assistant captain for the Balmoral Hall Blazers. She was also the assistant captain for the National Women's Under-18 Tournament in Kitchner, Ontario, that won the silver medal at the 2007 Canada Winter Games. Illchuk was the assistant captain for her high school team, Lord Selkirk Regional High School and for the Manitoba Thunder U-15 team. She also played for the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association All-Star teams from 2003-2006.
Stacey Kmill is a freshman forward from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Kmill captained the Thunder Bay Queens of the Midwest Elite Hockey League during the 2007-2008 season and was selected as the recipient of the Thunder Bay Queens' Bob Thompson Award. She also claimed a silver medal as a member of the 2007 Ontario Provincial Team.
Jane Moss signs on as a freshman defender/forward from Morrisburg, Ontario. Moss was the female athlete of the year at the Northwood School, and was also awarded the Charles Holt Hockey Award, the Northwood Malcolm Sportsmanship Award and the Northwood Headmaster's Award. Moss was also a semi-finalist with the 2005 and the 2006 Northwood teams that advanced in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Tournament.
Melissa Perry is a freshman defender from Chelsea, Mich. Perry was a member of the U-19 Little Caesars, a team that won the North American Hockey Association Tournament, the Junior Women's Hockey League Tournament Championship and was the runner-up at the National Women's Junior Hockey Championship. Perry earned All-Midwest Elite Hockey League Honorable Mention.
Randi Schock is a freshman defender from Stamford, Conn. Schock played at the Berkshire School, as well as playing for the Connecticut Polar Bears who advanced to the semi-finals of the 2007 USA Hockey Nationals. She was also a member of the New England Varsity Hockey champions in 2005-2006. She was also the recipient of The David Shumway Barrett Memorial Prize for Perseverance, given to a student at Berkshire who excels in both athletics and academics.
Kate Wheeler is a freshman forward who comes to the Bobcats from Oakville, Ontario. As a senior at Oakville Trafalgar High School, Wheeler was named the female Athlete of the Year. She won a gold medal while playing for the Provincial Championship team of Ontario in 2002 and was also a member of the team that won the 2008 Aeros Tournament Championship
