Bobcats Announce Year-End Awards

HAMDEN, Conn. -- The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team announced their 2007-2008 season awards Wednesday night. The awards were announced in conjunction with the Quinnipiac University Athletic Awards held at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.  Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ontario) was named the team's Most Valuable Player after she led the team in scoring this past season with 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists. The junior winger was also named the team's best offensive player for her performance on the ice this past season.

Kelley Davies (Chesapeake, Va.) was honored with the 7th Player Award. Davies, a freshman walk-on, was used as a faceoff specialist and saw her ice time increase as the year progressed. Finishing the season with three goals and two assists, Davies finished second on the team in scoring by a first year player.

Team captain Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario) was recognized for her involvement in the community with the team's Community Service Award. She was also named the team's best defensive player, while finishing second on the team in scoring with 16 points and tied for the team lead in assists with 11 during her junior campaign.

The Bobcat Award is given to the player who meets or exceeds the expectations on and off the ice off a Division I athlete. The player who receives this award demonstrates a strong work ethic, good character and a positive attitude. This year's recipient was Kelsey Britton (Ashland, Mass.). The freshman defenseman saw action in 29 games during her first season with the Bobcats and was one of the most dedicated members of the team off the ice.

The entire team was recognized for their work in the community as the Positive Play Award winners amongst all 21 of Quinnipiac's athletic teams. Throughout the season, the Bobcats helped members of the Hamden community with raking leaves, reading to local school children, skating with the Connecticut Polar Bears each Tuesday and taking part in the move-in crew at Quinnipiac.
