Team Notes: Princeton Opens Calendar Year Against Quinnipiac

PRINCETON - The Princeton women's hockey team continues its league schedule on Monday afternoon when Quinnipiac visits Hobey Baker Rink for a meeting of travel partners. Princeton enters the game winners of four in a row and has shut out three of its last four opponents.

The Tigers' current four-game win streak is its longest of the season and has Princeton 7-10-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the ECAC. Princeton most recently blanked a depleted fifth-ranked Boston College team on New Year's Eve by a 3-0 score.Julie Johnson scored two goals in the win, while Sally Butler added a goal and an assist.

The win was Princeton's second-straight shutout and marked the 11th time in Princeton's last 13 games that Princeton has held an opponent to two or less goals. While Princeton's defense has been there, the Tiger offense has come on over the past four games, scoring 16 goals over the four wins.

Rachel Weber has carried the load in goal since mid-November and her recent run has helped her lower her goals-against average below 2.00 to 1.93 and her save percentage has risen to .921. She also has three shutouts this season, all coming in the last four games she has played.

With its win over Boston College, the Tigers completed their seven non-conference games of the season with a 3-4 record. Princeton lost the first four, falling to Northeastern, Providence and Boston University twice, but won its remaining three, topping Syracuse twice and Boston College most recently.

Princeton has 11 league games remaining and it starts on Monday afternoon against Quinnipiac. The Bobcats defeated Princeton 5-2 in early November in Connecticut after falling behind the Tigers 2-0 in the opening five minutes of action.Sasha Sherry and Alex Kinney scored for Princeton in that loss.

Quinnipiac is currently 13-6-1 overall and 6-5-0 in ECAC Hockey but the Bobcats haven't played since Dec. 4 when they defeated Yale. Quinnipiac won its last four games before the break and has only lost consecutive games once this season. Princeton leads the all-time series with Quinnipiac 8-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 at Baker Rink.

Following Monday's game, Princeton wraps its intersession schedule this coming weekend on the road at Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
