Morey Joins Princeton Staff
PRINCETON - Princeton head women's hockey coach Jeff Kampersal has announced that Cara Gardner Morey has joined his coaching staff as an assistant coach. Morey was an All-ECAC and All-Ivy defenseman at Brown graduating in 2001 and she has played and coached competitively at many levels since.
"During her collegiate career, Cara was great defenseman in the ECAC," says Kampersal. "She was a smart player, very tough, defended well, and made a good first pass. More importantly, she is a better person. She is a leader with a high energy and compete level. We welcome her hockey expertise, her love of the game, her ability to develop relationships, and her character to our program. We are happy she has joined the PWIH family."
Morey has been active in the women's hockey community since graduating from Brown. She played on the Canadian U-22 Team and was a member of the Senior National Program for two seasons. She also played two seasons in the NWHL with the Montreal Wingstars and the Brampton Thunder. On the coaching side, Morey spent a year teaching and coaching hockey, field hockey and softball at Thayer Academy. She also spent a season working at Robert Morris and most recently coached the Phoenix Lady Coyotes U-19 AAA team.
"I am very excited to be joining Jeff and Amy in the Princeton Women's Hockey program,' says Morey. "Princeton University has a long tradition of combining exceptional academics and outstanding athletic programs. I admire that commitment to excellence both on the ice and in the classroom. My family and I are very grateful for the opportunity to become a part of the Princeton Community and I'm looking forward to working with Coach Kampersal, his players and staff, to bring home another Ivy league title."
Morey played both hockey and field hockey at Brown. She helped the Bears to three AWCHA National Championship Tournament appearances and the team was the runner up on two occasions. She earned All-Ivy and All-America honors in both sports and was the 2001 recipient of Brown's Bessie H. Rudd Award, which is given to the female varsity athlete that has down the most to promote female athletics through spirit, enthusiasm and leadership. She also represented Brown at the NCAA Leadership Conference in 2000.
Morey graduated from Brown with a degree in human biology and earned a Master's of Education from Arizona State in 2010.
Morey's husband Sean spent nine years playing in the NFL. Also a Brown graduate, Sean Morey has the distinction of scoring the first touchdown in Princeton Stadium history. The couple has three daughters.
