Team Notes: Princeton Visits Cornell and Colgate

PRINCETON - The Princeton women's hockey team visits Central New York this season to face second-ranked Cornell and Colgate. The weekend will complete Princeton's season series with both opponents in just the fourth league weekend of the year.

Princeton managed just a point in last weekend's home games against Dartmouth and Harvard despite only trailing on the scoreboard for six minutes of play. After falling behind 1-0 to Dartmouth on Friday, Princeton scored twice and held a 2-1 lead until Dartmouth scored the equalizer with less than two minutes left and then netted the game winner in overtime.

A day later, Princeton held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before settling for a 2-2 tie with Harvard as the Crimson equalizer came with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Three Tigers-Alex KinneyOlivia Mucha and Julie Johnson-had multiple points over the weekend. Kinney had a goal and an assist, while Mucha and Johnson each tallied two assists.Denna LaingKelly Cooke and Corey Stearns scored the other Tiger goals. Rachel Weber stopped 56 of the 61 shots she faced in the two games in goal.

Princeton will wrap up its season series with Cornell and Colgate early this season. The teams met in the first weekend of league play and will meet again in the fourth weekend. Princeton will complete its series with the two before even meeting four other league opponents.

The Tigers visit Cornell on Friday night. The second-ranked Big Red topped Princeton 5-1 on Oct. 30, scoring three times in the first period to grab the lead. Paula Romanchuk scored for Princeton in the third period. The win was Cornell's third straight against Princeton. Cornell is 6-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in the ECAC. The Big Red suffered their first loss two weeks ago at home to Mercyhurst but rebounded to sweep Harvard and Dartmouth two weekends ago. Cornell was off last weekend.

Princeton completes the weekend at Colgate on Saturday afternoon. Princeton blanked the Raiders 2-0 on Oct. 29 at home. Butler and Laing scored the goals for Princeton in the win. Colgate is 4-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the ECAC. Colgate's lone league win came a day after its loss to Princeton when it topped Quinnipiac 2-1 in overtime. Last weekend Colgate split two games with Niagara.
