The following article appeared February 12 on the Princeton Web site.
The Princeton women’s hockey team hits the road this
weekend and visits Northern New York to take on Clarkson and St.
Lawrence. Princeton currently sits tied for fourth in the ECAC
standings and must finish in the top four to clinch a home ice
playoff spot in the ECAC quarterfinals.
Princeton earned three of a four possible points last weekend with
a win over Colgate and a tie with Cornell. The Tigers have earned
15 of their last 18 possible points since the calendar turned to
2009 and in turn have climbed into contention for a home-ice
playoff series.
Princeton opened the weekend with a 3-1 win over Colgate last
Friday, avenging a loss to Colgate earlier in the season. Princeton
used two goals in the game’s first 10 minutes to build a lead
that Colgate could not overcome. Freshman Paula Romanchuk started
the scoring with her team-leading ninth goal of the season and
senior Christine Foster netted the eventual game winner midway
through the period. Colgate moved within a goal late in the first,
but could get no closer as freshman Heather Landry capped the
scoring in the third. Landry had a goal and as assist in the game
and sophomore Sasha Sherry had two assists.
