
Princeton Hands Out Year-End Awards
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Princeton women's hockey team held its
annual post-season banquet last Saturday night at the Nassau Club
in Princeton. The team handed out its five yearly awards and named
its captains for next season.
Junior goaltender Kristen
Young was given the Elizabeth English Trophy, which is presented
annually to the member of the women's hockey team, voted by her
teammates to be the most valuable player. It is named in honor of
Elizabeth English '75, whose efforts helped to establish women's
ice hockey at Princeton. Young played every game in the Tiger goal
last season with a 14-12-6 record, a 2.10 goals-against average and
a .910 save percentage. She also recorded seven shutouts.
Senior Lizzie
Keady received the Patty Kazmaier Award, which is given annually to
the senior member of the women's hockey team who has made the
greatest contribution to the program during her career and best
exemplifies the following characteristics: Loyalty and devotion to
Princeton Women's Hockey and determination and perseverance under
adverse conditions. Keady, the league's Sarah Devens Award winner
for leadership and commitment, registered double-digits in scoring
for the fourth consecutive season with 19 points on nine goals and
10 assists in 28 games.
Sophomore Maddie
Endicott was honored with the Most Improved Player Trophy. It is
awarded annually to the member of the women's hockey team that has
improved the most and is voted on by her teammates. Endicott saw
her role on the blue line increase this season as she logged
important minutes and tallied 11 points.
Senior Sonja
Novak received the Unsung Hero Award, which is awarded annually to
the member of the women's hockey team voted by her teammates to be
the team's unsung hero during the season. Novak scored 10 goals and
added two assists this season and completed her Princeton career
with 15 goals scored in 121 career games.
The Rookie of the Year Award was presented to freshman Sasha
Sherry, who was named a first-team All-Ivy and a second-team
All-ECAC in her first season on the Tiger blue line. Sherry had 21
points in her rookie campaign.
Lastly, junior Monica
Brennan was named Princeton's 2008-09 captain. Junior Christine
Foster and sophomore Stephanie
Denino will serve as assistant captains when the season gets
underway next fall.
