And away we go!
So after the preliminary round, we are excited to move on ahead to the semifinals where we will face the same Swedish squad that upset us in 2006 to go on and win the silver medal. Of course, there is plenty more on the line for this game, so we don't need to dredge too deeply for motivation, but it is certainly a reminder that we can't take any game for granted. Anything can happen in the medal round, this we know.
Other than that, our off-ice lives have been hurtling right along as well. The other day we were guests on The Ellen Degeneres Show! I announce this rather demurely to make sure that I have your undivided attention. That's right, Ellen had our team do a quick cameo from our perch high atop Vancouver. It was a pretty sweet scene, made even cooler by the fact that Gigi Marvin was solely responsible for the invitation. For weeks Gigi has been writing to Ellen, sending photos and video of our team, and most significantly, photos of us everywhere imaginable with our very own "flat Ellen." It's a close-up of Ellen's face taped to a tongue depressor. What it lacks in techno-chic it more than makes up for in character. She has been in the weight room with us, on planes and buses, at the opening ceremonies and of course, on the ice. Gigi's hard work paid off when we finally got the invite.
