Four years ago in Turin, Italy, while the U.S. women's hockey team
was slushing toward a bronze medal in the Winter Olympics, Simi
Valley native Angela Ruggiero was trolling for votes.
NBC, the network covering the Olympics, wanted fans to vote online
from a list of 12 U.S. athletes. The winner would be a contestant
on the upcoming season of the Donald Trump reality series, "The
Apprentice."
Ruggiero triumphed, and Trump embraced her celebrity, keeping her
around to the final three selections before those fateful words -
"You're fired" - but he offered her a job anyway after the series
ended.
