Entry No. 8 - Jan. 19, 2010
ARGH! I hope that my dedication to this blog will never be questioned after this entry. Right now I am in a most considerable amount of pain. Thankfully, my injuries were not incurred during practice or a game or in the weight room, but rather unfortunately at the dinner table. My teammates and I are in a challenge phase of our training, the final tilt before we head out to Vancouver. The sessions are grueling and mentally and physically draining; however, today the reward was equally as trying. You see, there is a Brazilian steakhouse called Fogo de Chao in downtown Minneapolis, where 15 different kinds of meat are brought around and served all-you-can-eat style until you can no longer chew. While I am a force to be reckoned with on the ice, I get downright outdone at the dinner table with unflinching regularity. I am mortified by this shortcoming, especially at such a crucial event. I lost my edge after the salad bar, a JV mistake, but I really do love antipasti, my bad. Then I went in for the side dishes, again, not so well played. By the time I got to the fifth different kind of meat, my eyes were beginning to roll back into my head. If you can't tell, I feel shame. To make matters worse, I was sitting next to Karen Thatcher, who was the hands-down champ of the event. I am more than a little convinced that she has a hollow leg, or maybe two, who knows, but the long and the short of it is that she could put an all-you-can-eat buffet out of business. Congratulations Thatch!
