Happy New Year! I know I am a bit behind the ball but if you had
been on the never-ending road trip of four games in five cities in
seven days over eight flights and many hours on a bus, you might
feel trapped in Groundhog Day too. To top things off, six bags were
lost, and are currently MIA. The rest of us had our own luggage
woes. I didn't have my clothes bag for the first four days of the
trip, and I think I am being generous when I say that my travel
tracksuit started to get a little gamey by the end of that stretch.
Other complications included Jocelyn, Meghan, Bri and Gigi not
getting their equipment bags in Ottawa until five minutes before we
went on the ice for the game. They literally had to borrow Ottawa
Senators hand-me-downs for the pregame warm up. It was hilarious. I
really hope we got plenty of pics to throw back at them once enough
time has passed to make jokes about it.
Then there was Connecticut. Kerry Weiland didn't even get her gear
for the game, so she was wearing a hodge-podge of gear that we
threw together and Jenny Potter's skates. We were defense partners
for the game, and any time I had the chance to give her a pass, I
would look up and she would be waving me off, afraid that she was
going to wipe out and cause chaos. I can joke about it now, only
because we were in it together, and, as I told her, she did way
better than I would have in someone else's skates. I am a total
spaz in general, much less in unfamiliar gear. Kudos to Kerry for
being the ultimate trooper.
