Canada Training Camp Features Crimson Duo
CALGARY, Alta. -- Harvard senior Sarah Vaillancourt and former Crimson standout Jennifer Botterill are among 24 players who will attend the upcoming training camp for Canada's National Women's Team, Hockey Canada announced.
The camp, scheduled from Jan. 25-30, will include two exhibition
games against local men's midget AAA teams and two intersquad
Red-White games. Three of the games will be held at Calgary's
Father David Bauer Olympic Arena, with one exhibition game being
played at Red Deer Arena.
The January training camp will help prepare Canada for the 2009
International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women's
Championship, which will be held April 4-12 in Hameenlinna,
Finland.
Vaillancourt, the 2008 Patty Kazmaier Award winner as the nation's
top player, won the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2006
Olympics and at the 2007 Women's Four Nation Cup. More recently,
Vaillancourt took home the silver medal at both the 2008 IIHF World
Women's Championship as well as the Four Nations Cup in November
2008.
A co-captain of the Crimson, the forward has amassed 20 points in
14 contests this season and ranks third in ECAC Hockey with eight
tallies and 16 points in conference games. In Harvard's 3-2 win at
Dartmouth Dec. 17, Vaillancourt recorded the 200th point of her
stellar career and currently ranks seventh on the Crimson's
all-time scoring list with 205 points on 90 goals and 115 assists.
Botterill was the Patty Kazmaier Award recipient in 2001 and 2003, earning the distinction of being the only player to win the award twice. Botterill captured the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2002 and 2006 Olympics, and also received the silver medal at the 1998 Nagano Games.
