Cahow Named USOC Athlete of Month
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- After helping Team USA defend its
title at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World
Women's Championship in April, former Harvard standout Caitlin
Cahow was tabbed the U.S. Olympic Committee's Athlete of the Month,
the USOC announced Friday afternoon. In addition, the U.S. Women's
National Team was named the USOC Team of the Month.
Cahow, a former Crimson All-America defender, played both forward
and defense for Team USA, totaling six points on two goals and four
assists in five games. She found the back of the net twice in the
gold-medal game, scoring the first goal only 24 seconds into the
contest and earned Player of the Game honors for the U.S.
squad.
Former Harvard standouts Angela Ruggiero '02-04 and Julie Chu
'06-07 joined Cahow on Team USA, which defeated Canada by a 4-1
margin in the gold-medal game to secure its second straight IIHF
championship. The U.S., which posted a 4-0-0-1 record in the
tournament and outscored opponents 28-3 in five games, is currently
ranked No. 1 in the world rankings for the first time since the
system was introduced in 2004.
