Kessler Named to Canada’s Under-22 Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard junior Christina Kessler is one of two goaltenders selected to Canada's National Women's Under-22 Team that will compete at the 2009 MLP Cup (formerly Air Canada Cup) Jan. 2-6, 2009, in Ravensburg, Germany.  Canada is looking for its seventh-consecutive title at the event.

The Canadians will first play a pair of games against Switzerland's national women's team on Dec. 29 and 31, prior to departing for Ravensburg for the MLP Cup.

Kessler, who helped Canada to a three-game series victory over Team USA at the Under-22 Series last August, stands at 3-4-2 in net this year for the 10th-ranked Crimson and boasts a 1.89 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage (187 of 205).

The reigning ECAC Goaltender of the Year, Kessler set the NCAA Division I single-season shutout record with 12 last season.  A native of Oakville, Ont., she also paced the nation in save percentage (.952) and was second in goals-against average (1.06) in 2007-08.

Kessler owns a career 41-9-3 record at Harvard, placing her sixth on Harvard's all-time goaltender win list.
