Crimson Duo Heads to Lake Placid
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -– Harvard senior forward Sarah
Vaillancourt and Katey Stone, the Landry Family Head Coach for
Harvard Women’s Ice Hockey, will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y.,
Tuesday for the Four Nations Cup held Nov. 4-9. Vaillancourt, the
2008 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award recipient and gold medalist at
the 2006 Turin Olympics, will play for Team Canada, while Stone
will serve as the head coach for Team USA.
Several other Harvard alumnae will suit up at the upcoming
tournament. Forward Julie Chu ’06-07, defenseman Angela
Ruggiero ’02-04, the 2007 and 2004 Patty Kazmaier recipients,
respectively, and defenseman Caitlin Cahow ’07-08, a bronze
medalist with Team USA at the 2006 Turin Olympics, will once again
play for Coach Stone. Ruggiero has three Olympic medals to her
credit, having won the gold at Nagano in 1998, the silver at Salt
Lake City in 2002, and the bronze in 2006. Chu, meanwhile, also won
the silver in 2002 and the bronze in 2006.
Joining Vaillancourt on Team Canada will be forward Jennifer
Botterill ’02-03, the only two-time Patty Kazmaier award
winner (2001 and 2003). Botterill is a two-time Olympic gold
medalist (2002 and 2006) and also earned the silver in Nagano in
1998.
The competition will begin Tuesday with Canada playing Finland and
the United States taking on Sweden. Canada, last year’s
champion, will face Team USA Thursday at 7 p.m. at the 1980
Rink.
The bronze-medal game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m.,
followed by the gold-medal contest at 2:30 p.m.
USCHO.com will provide free live audio and video for all games
during the tournament. Former Crimson standouts A.J. Mleczko
’97-99, the 1999 Patty Kazmaier winner, and Jamie Hagerman
’03, will serve as guest analysts for the broadcasts. Mleczko
won the gold medal at the 1998 Olympics and the silver in 2002 at
Salt Lake City, while Hagerman captured the silver at Turin in 2006
playing for Team USA.
