Crimson Players Secure Gold, Silver at Four Nations
LEKSAND, Sweden-Former Harvard forward Jennifer Botterill '02-03 scored the game-winning goal to lead Canada to a 2-0 win against the United States in the gold-medal game of the 2007 Women's Four Nations Cup Sunday, capping a week that saw current and former Crimson skaters help their countries reach the final game.
Joining Botterill on Team Canada was Crimson junior forward Sarah Vaillancourt. The Canadians won all four of their games, topping Finland, 4-1, the United States, 6-3, and Sweden, 5-3, in the round-robin portion of the event before downing Team USA in the championship game. Botterill had three goals and two assists in the four games, and Vaillancourt scored once.
Former Crimson captain Julie Chu '06-07and current Harvard skater Caitlin Cahow were defensemen on the silver-winning U.S. team. They helped Team USA shut out the host Swedes, 4-0, in their opening game, with Cahow notching an assist. Chu recorded an assist in the 6-3 loss to Canada and was named the U.S. Player of the Game in the States' 2-1 victory against Finland to secure a part in the gold-medal game.
Cahow, Vaillancourt and the rest of the seventh-ranked 2007-08 Crimson are off to a 2-0-0 start overall and in ECAC Hockey play. Harvard returns to action Friday at Yale and face Brown Saturday.
