Chuck Grant ’16 Excels On and Off the IceIn March, Dartmouth’s men’s hockey team surprised Yale in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) semifinals, sweeping the best-of-three series. Yale outshot Dartmouth 47-15 in the second game, but Dartmouth goalie Charles “Chuck” Grant stopped all but one of Yale’s shots as Dartmouth won 2-1.
Although Dartmouth fell in the semifinals, Grant’s hockey career may continue, as he is now fielding inquiries from pro hockey teams. But he has other career options as well. Even as he competed at the highest level of collegiate hockey, Grant also excelled as a student, racking up ECAC All-Academic honors three years in a row while pursuing a degree in environmental studies.
“The skates are hung up at some point,” hockey coach Bob Gaudet ’81 says, “but to have the stability of a Dartmouth degree and a group of alumni who support them really, really well gives these kids a lot to look forward to.”
In this video, watch Grant stop shot after shot in the final game of the sweep against Yale and hear Grant, Gaudet, and Grant’s teammate Ryan Bullock reflect on their season and on the opportunities a Dartmouth education provides.
