Catching Up with Moira Scanlon

The following article featuring Dartmouth defenseman Moira Scanlon appeared January 3 on the Dartmouth Web site.

HANOVER, N.H. — Senior Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.) doesn't get as much publicity as other seniors on the team since she is one of the anchors for the Dartmouth defense. Despite not tallying multiple goals and assists on a regular basis, she knows how her role of keeping the opposing offense from getting good shots is a responsibility that doesn't always show up on the stat sheet.

But before getting to Dartmouth and contributing for the Big Green, Scanlon was just a kid who liked to skate.

"I started figure skating when I was four because my mom figure skated and my sister did too," Scanlon said. "But I did not really like it, and especially for someone so young who got to watch other people play with pucks and sticks. Just learning how to skate was kind of boring for me. I don't think my mom could really put up with me any more, so she put me into hockey."
