Team Notes: Big Green Begin League Play at Clarkson & St. Lawrence
HANOVER, N.H. — The 10th-ranked
Dartmouth women's hockey team opened the regular season at
fifth-ranked Boston College on Sunday, and lost with the Eagles
scoring the game-winning goal with two seconds left in the third
period to win, 4-3.
Junior Camille Dumais (Beaconsfield, Quebec) gave the Big Green a
1-0 lead off an assist from senior Kelly Foley (South Boston,
Mass.) six minutes into the first period. Foley followed that up
with her first goal of the season two minutes later off assists
from senior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alberta) and junior Margaux Sharp
(Carleton Place, Ontario).
Dartmouth stretched the lead to 3-0 on Foley's second goal of
the night, her third point, with a little over five minutes left in
the first off an assist from Dumais.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth enters the weekend and ECAC Hockey play with a 0-1-0
record.
Foley leads the team in points with three on two goals and an assist. Dumais is second with two points on a goal and an assist. Two other players recorded an assist in the loss; Fischer and Sharp.
Sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) played all 60 minutes for the Big Green on Sunday, making 31 saves and allowing four goals. She has an .886 save percentage.
The team took 19 shots on goal against the Eagles and committed four penalties. In four power play chances, Dartmouth scored one goal, and was 1-for-2 in the penalty kill.
ECAC HONOR
After her three-point performance against the Eagles on Sunday,
Foley was named the ECAC Hockey women's player of the week. Not
only did she have three points in the game, but she also finished
with a plus/minus of +1 and recorded a blocked shot. One of her
goals came on the power play. Last season, she led the team in
power play goals with nine. She increased her career point total to
72. She has 34 goals and 38 assists.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
In both national polls, Dartmouth is ranked 10th in the nation. In
the USCHO.com poll, the Big Green received 12 points and had 11
points in the USA HOCKEY/ESPN The Magazine National Poll.
Wisconsin is the top team in both polls, receiving all of the first place votes.
Cornell is the only other ECAC Hockey team ranked. In both polls, the Big Red are third. Both Clarkson and St. Lawrence are receiving votes in both polls.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson enters the weekend with a 4-1-3 record and are receiving
votes in both national polls. Last weekend, the Golden Knights tied
fourth-ranked Boston University, 2-2, at home and defeated New
Hampshire, 2-1.
Sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray leads the team with 14 points on five goals and nine assists. Sophomore Carly Mercer is second on the team with eight points on four goals and four assists. Junior Danielle Skirrow has three goals and four assists for seven points.
Sophomore Erica Howe has played all the minutes in net for Clarkson and has a 4-1-3 record. She has 183 saves, a .906 save percentage, a 2.30 goals against average and one shutout in 495 minutes.
The team averages 2.88 goals per game, while giving up 2.38. The
Golden Knights average 31.4 shots per game and are 10-for-38 on the
power play. The team has also been successful on the penalty kill,
going 29-for-33.
SERIES HISTORY
The contest will be the 22nd time the two teams have met on the
ice. Dartmouth leads the all-time series, 12-6-3. The first meeting
between the two schools took place on February 10, 1979. The Golden
Knights won the contest, 3-2, in overtime at Thompson Arena. Last
year, the two teams played five times, including three times in the
first round of the ECAC Tournament. The squads split during the
regular season with each team winning on its home ice. In the
tournament, Dartmouth won the best-of-three series, 2-1, by winning
the third contest in overtime.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence has a 3-1-2 record and are receiving votes in both
national polls. Last weekend, the Saints tied New Hampshire at
home, 2-2, and lost at home to Boston University, 3-2.
Senior Karell Émard leads the team in points with eight on three goals and five assists. Sophomore Rylee Smith and junior Kelly Sabatine are tied for second with seven points. Smith has four goals and three assists and Sabatine has two goals and five assists.
Freshman Carmen MacDonald has seen the most time in net, starting four games. She has 102 saves, a .903 save percentage, a 2-0-2 record and a 2.64 goals against average in 249:35 minutes.
The Saints average 3.83 goals per game, while allowing 2.50
goals against. St. Lawrence takes 33.7 shots per game, and commit
5.8 penalties per game. The team is 3-for-32 on the power play, and
28-for-34 on the penalty kill.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday will mark the 53rd match up between the two schools. The
Big Green lead the series with a 28-22-2 record. The two teams
first met on February 17, 1975 at St. Lawrence, with the Saints
winning, 4-3. Dartmouth won 19 of the first 24 contests, but St.
Lawrence won a majority of the games in the 2000’s Last year,
the teams played twice with each team winning on the road.
